15 days
Yep, I basically only have 2 weeks to finish getting ready to be gone for 18 months. Crazy huh? I am pretty close to being ready... but there's still a list of things I need to get and do before I leave. Ugh. I just want it all to be done so I can enjoy my last few weeks here. Oh well, I guess it gives me something to do since I don't have a job anymore. :)

Student Drivers
are scary. But I guess they have to practice somehow.
Imagine jerking to a stop, accelerating towards stopped cars and red lights, and being yanked into a new lane... and you have pretty much summed up my ride home from stake conference. And I couldn't do a thing about it.
Someone tell me why we let him drive the whole family? No one had to ride with me, or my sister when we were learning...
Anyway, the good news is that I probably won't have to endure this too many more times before I am teaching my own children to drive (and believe me, I am definitely not looking forward to that experience...)

Temples!!!
Maybe deciding we were going to visit 14 temples in 4 days was a bit... ambitious. But we DID get to 10. And went in 7. I think that's pretty good. See, when mom and I were planning the trip and which temples we would see what day, we didn't factor in a lot of things... like eating, getting gas, taking pictures, and (ugh) construction- on every freeway in California, Nevada, and Utah.
We successfully attended the Sacramento, Oakland, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Manti Temples. We also stopped at the Reno, Redlands, and St. George Temples to take pictures, but we didn't have time to go in. And I have now seen every temple in California except the Fresno Temple. That's pretty awesome.
This week, my mom and I endured traffic, heat, nasty/scary hotels, gross hotel food (only once), fatigue, and endless miles of absolutely nothing.
It was all worth it. I would do it all again, too. Because I think that the experience was worth everything we went through. I am excited for this upcoming Sunday when we will be witnessing a dedication of another temple. It's going to be so neat.
p.s. San Diego is still my favorite... yep, it's too bad it's so far away.

Real life
Ever had a wonderful time that you didn't want to end? Then, all of a sudden, your normal everyday life calls to you, demanding your time and attention?
This past weekend falls under the "never wanting it to end" category. I'm still sort of reeling from the fact that it even happened. The greatness probably won't be topped-ever. I did things I never thought I would do... explored my spontaneous side (yes, I can be spontaneous).
Then this morning I woke up for work and thought... Man, I wish I was still in California on some beach without any responsibility beyond not getting caught sleeping there.
But then I realized that that's what made my weekend so awesome. See, if I ALWAYS went to California on a whim and did crazy (and maybe illegal) things, then they wouldn't seem near as fun or cool. (also, I might get a little tired of the drive).
So, while I may have been cursing real life this morning, I should probably have been thanking it... for making my weekend so awesome.

Less than 2 months...
and then I leave for a year and a half. Wow, this is coming up so fast. It kind of makes my head spin. And this is so different than anything I've ever done, I feel quite nervous. But that's normal, right? I mean, human nature, to be nervous about the unknown, or inexperienced.
School starts in even less time... less than 1 month. If I were going to school this fall, I would be getting all psyched up to go and start new classes... but I can guarantee that I would be a little more relaxed. I've been to school before... that's old news. I'm a pro, it's a piece of cake. Compared to my quickly approaching adventure, anyway.
But I am determined to become a pro. Just wait and see.
