Run, run, run, as fast as you can...

You can't catch me! I'm... not the gingerbread man...

...and maybe you could catch me. I'm kind of slow. BUT, I ran 3 miles on Wednesday. It rained on us ( "us" meaning me and Brooke, my running partner; without whom I would not be able to run at all... Thanks a bunch Brooke!) You see, when we set out to run, it was not raining. It was overcast (a beautiful day, in my opinion). We ran from our apartment to the Logan Temple and back, and it didn't start raining until we were almost at the temple. And when we got home, we were soaked... and frozen to the bone. But the 'runner's high' was there and we felt GREAT!

And then, yesterday, we decided to go again. It was overcast again, but this time it was kind of trying to snow when we left. We only went 2 miles, but it was still amazing! And when we were half way done and coming back, the snow started coming down in earnest. We had flakes landing in our eyes and up our noses and in our mouths. But we kept on keepin' on and we made it back and got our runner's high again. *sigh* I love running!

Compassion

com-pas-sion [kuh-m-pash-uhn]; noun: a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.

You can search the internet or a dictionary, and find several different variations to this particular definition, but the fact remains that compassion is a feeling deep within us that brings the desire to help others.

This feeling, and I am talking particularly to women because we tend to feel it a little stronger, is a blessing and a curse. It makes us sensitive to things that happen to people. We have something built in us that makes us want to listen, understand, and help in any way we can. And you feel sorry for people when they do something wrong... but that's where the curse comes in. When someone messes up, you want to correct them; however, the compassion you feel for them makes it very hard to know how to tell them what they need to hear.

I don't think I am going to solve anything with this blog post... there really is no way to solve this. We feel compassionate and we get everything that comes with it, no exceptions. All I want to accomplish really is to put these thoughts on paper... or in cyberspace, I guess.

Teachers!

Who in the heck assigns homework due on FRIDAY NIGHT?! This insanity must stop. College students everywhere are wasting their prime years of Friday Nights doing homework. We could be getting ice cream right now...

One might say that students don't have to do it on Friday... they could do it before Friday. But sometimes, because all your other teachers pile on the homework too, this is completely impossible. Why is it that the most fun years of your life land you in one of the most intellectually challenging? It's like, "here, you can have fun and be crazy, but you need something hard in your life, so here also, are some really evil teachers."

I guess you need some things to be hard in life... but is it really necessary to suck this bad?

Life

Recently, more and more, I'm realizing that life is fragile. I don't mean life as in life and death. I mean life as in the way you always imagined it, or life the way you are or want to be living it.

This realization kind of scares me. Mostly what is making me feel this way is divorce. It seems like every time I turn around, there is someone else getting divorced. And they aren't random strangers... I know these people, talk to them, associate with them... I don't know the whole story for any of them... but I have known most of the individuals pretty well, and almost all of them seemed happy and thriving. I never would have guessed this news from most of them.

So, my question is this: How can I be sure about getting married to ANYONE? You can't force anyone to be committed to a relationship... so how do I ensure mine lasts? And you're never in the clear! I could be happily married for 20 years, have 4 kids and be established in a home, and then... boom, family dissolved. Of course, there are still the children, so it's not completely a loss. But to have to start over in the dating game when I'm 45?! I'm only 20 and I'm kind of sick of the "games."

Once in a while I get all freaked out about these questions, and someone will say something to the effect of, "But what about all of the people who are still happily married? They don't all end in divorce, you know..." At which point I take a deep breath and remember that they are right, and it's just the fact that divorce has a negative connotation and it's a change, so naturally it's going to be the more prominent part in my mind.

The most important thing to me is to be a mom and have an eternal family. And to be a mom, I need a committed eternal companion. I'll find him someday, hopefully.

3 lives

I saved 3 lives today!!! Well, what I mean to say is, I donated blood! I feel great!!!

In the last year and a half, I have tried to donate blood 3 times. The first two, I was almost anemic, and they wouldn't take my blood. But not today! I was not anemic, or even almost anemic! They got a pint out of me in 5 minutes and 20 seconds! I was amazed because it was really fast, and there were no problems! YAY!!! And now, I have this awesome pink bandage on my arm. So cool.
